Voting Matters 2000 We Have a Winner!
In the final results, Geek Party candidate Urkel had a solid lead with 55% of the total votes. Slumber Party candidate Laura Winslow came in a close second with 41%. But House Party candidate Carl Winslow and Bachelor Party candidate Eddie Winslow didn't have a chance, as they both tied last with only 2% each. Steve calls this event a momentous occassion for nerds everywhere. "I think this is a great example to show the country that there are more nerds, geeks, dorks, and dweebs out there then we think," he commented as he and the Geek Party celebrated at the home of newly elected Speaker of the House Samuel "Screech" Powers. "I knew Steve could do it. He's very intelligent and clearly the most qualified of the four to run this country," said Myra Monkhouse, who is now the first lady of the country. "The campaign Steve ran was all about equality. He never targeted against any group, and it made him the clear winner." Many political analysts do believe that it was Carl, Eddie, and Laura's support of the Anti-Geek Trust Act that caused them to lose a lot of votes. "What they didn't realize is that the people they want to vote for them also are affected by this law," said Myrtle Urkel, the newly elected vice president. "To be a geek supporting them would mean being against yourself. Luckily, Laura realized this, but she realized a little too late." According to opinion polls, it seemed destined that either Steve or Laura would win this election. Laura, disappointed that she did not succed, says she is still excited about being in second place. "This is the most support a woman has ever gotten for running for office," she quotes. "I am not ashamed at all at what I got. It was almost half and half between me and Steve, which makes it obvious that I have a lot of fanbase out there." She says she will try to run against Harriette for senate and plans to try for the presidency again in the next Voting Matters election. Carl Winslow feels very disappointed about losing, and blames himself for it. "I made a lot of mistakes in this election. I have proven to myself that this is clearly not the race for me." He does not plan to return to the next election. Eddie, upset at how his political and personal life has been affected by this election, also plans to drop out of politics for good. "I have learned that politics can be a cruel game. I don't want anymore to do with it. I'm just glad that I still have my friends and my girl, Greta, after all of this." So who does plan to run in the next election? In addition to Laura and Steve going for a second term, House Party first lady and senatoral candidate Harriette Winslow is planning to run in the next election, and there are rumors of Eddie helping his vice president, Waldo Faldo, get ready for the next election. "Waldo is the complete opposite of me," Eddie stated. "He has no background dirt. He is the everyman candidate. I sure do hope he considers running next time." But until that time, all eyes are on Steve Urkel, the big winner of the race, whose first actions in office is to rid the law of the Anti-Geek Trust Act. He also plans to make sure there is lots of health care available to those who are injured in the making and testing of their inventions. Congratulations go out to Steve Urkel and the Geek Party. See you in 2004.
